Driver Information System (DIS) in Cars

The term Driver Information System is getting popular day by day as cars are advancing and so is the technology. The analog systems are being replaced by digital ones and at much cheaper cost. Driver Information System(DIS) is the system installed in a car which gathers all the necessary information useful to a driver from various sensory equipment and display them all together in a single display behind the steering wheel(in some cases somewhere on the dashboard. Have a look at the various information it provide..

What DIS Shows ???

Information shown in most of the DIS:

  • Indicates if any door of the car is open or not properly closed.
  • Indicators for any Battery, Fuel, Steering or Engine issues.
  • Outside Temperature and Current Time.
  • Distance traveled for a trip or Total Distance the car has traveled.
  • Driver not wearing Seat belt or Handbrake lifted up.
  • Fuel Efficiency
  • How far your car can go without  refueling your car.

Additional information shown:

  • Tyre pressure in all the wheels.
  • Battery percent charged.
  • Navigation directions.
  • Automatic gearbox selector lever settings (For Automatic Transmissions)
  • Speed Exceeding Warning
  • Gear shift indicators (Suggests gearshift for better efficiency)
  • Phone Numbers stored, Information related to Missed, received or Dialed calls.

Auto Check Control:

Auto Check Control is a unit that continuously checks the brake and light systems, the coolant level and temperature, the oil pressure, the fuel level, the windscreen washer fluid level, the battery voltage and – if the optional tyre pressure monitoring system is fitted – the tyre pressures. Pictograms are displayed to alert the driver to any problems that arise. This Unit is internal part of DIS and provides engine related informations.
