Fastest Automobile on Land, Water, Air: Everywhere

Speed is thrilling..speed is amazing..speed is beloved..speed is respected..and most importantly speed is recorded...Today I am giving you guys a brief list of Fastest Automobiles on every medium..be it sky..or land or water or railway tracks :) Get ready and fasten up your seat belts cause speed is risky.. :)

Fastest Car on Land:

Amazing Thrust SSC

ThrustSSC holds the World Land Speed Record, set on 15 October 1997, when it achieved a speed of
1,228 km/h (763 mph) and became the first car to officially break the sound barrier. It surely looks like a plane but since it is not I put it in Fastest on Land category.

Fastest Production Car on Land:

Bugatti Veyron-Super Sport

As you can see a normal person can't drive the Thrust SSC that's why there should be a car which is fastest in real means..And it is none other than Bugatti Veyron-Super Sport. Being the fastest it also holds the title for being the Costliest Production Car in the world. It has the top speed of 258 mph.

Fastest Bike on Land:

Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner

Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner:On 25 September 2010, Rocky Robinson (USA) achieved an average speed of 605.697 km/h (376.363 mi/h) in his Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner over a measured kilometre (0.6 miles) at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, USA.

Fastest Production Bike on Land:

Suzuki Hayabusa

The actual winner can't be decided because of Gentlemen's Agreement. According to this agreement the bikes can't cross the limit of 188mph. But I chose Suzuki Hayabusa as the company claims it to have top speed of 194mph with holding the previous speed records.

Fastest Boat on Water:

XSR48 Boat

XSR48: It's a 48-feet, 800 bhp boat with carbon fiber hull, which can achieve speeds in excess of 161 km/h(100 mph) with its race-tuned engine option.

Fastest Passenger Airplane on Air:

GULFSTREAM G650: In August 2010, as part of its 1,800 hour flight test programme, a Gulfstream G650 passenger jet serial number 6001, flown by test pilots Tom Horne and Gary Freeman, reached a flight speed of Mach 0.995 in a 16-18 degree dive in Savannah, Georgia, USA

GulfStream G650

Fastest Aircraft on Air:

Tupolev TU-144

TUPOLEV TU-144: The Tupolev Tu-144, first flown on 31 December 1968 in the former USSR, was reported to have reached Mach 2.4 (2,587 km/h; 1,600 mph), but normal cruising speed was Mach 2.2. After two crashes the aircraft was taken out of service in 1978.

Fastest Train on Tracks:

Shangai's Maglev Train

MagLev Train:The magnetically levitated (maglev) train linking China's Shanghai International Airport and the city's financial district, reaches a top speed of 431 km/h (267.8 mph) on each 30 km (18 mile) run.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner

The Ultimate 787 Dreamliner is the latest offering by Boeing. In this post I'll tell you about the latest addition to the Air India Airlines, What are the features. Boeing claims that the Dreamliner is the most fuel efficient aircraft among all other aircrafts that the company offers.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner

About 787 Dreamliner:

Dreamliner is a bigger, better, and efficient aircraft which the maker Boeing claims to save 20% of the fuel consumption as compared to the similar sized 767 by Boeing. Its capable of accommodating upto 290 passengers inside it's well placed seating arrangement. The first dreamliner was unveiled on July 8, 2007 at the company's Everett Assembly Factory and at that moment Boeing received 677 orders which is maximum for a wide body aircraft at launch event.

Inside the Dreamliner:

Flight Deck:

Boeing 787 Dreamliner: Air Filteration process

  • Dynamic LED Lightning: The cabin has LED lights as compared to incandescent lights in other planes and these LED lights can stimulate spectrum of full day lightning from day to night for longer flights.
  • Bigger Windows: The dreamliner has 30% bigger windows with electrochromic dimming system and with that the passenger can change the tint of the window as per their need.
  • Cleaner Air: The dreamliner has High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter (HEPA) which filters out the bacteria and fungus. In addition to that the plane has gaseous filter to remove odor and keep the air fresh.
  • Smoother Ride: The plane is equipped with sensors to sense the outer turbulence and command the wings to tackle it so that the passenger gets smoother ride without any sick feeling.

Dreamliner Body:

Boeing 787 Dreamliner: One Piece barrel construction

The use of composite materials in the wing structure allows the 787 wing to have a higher aspect ratio (the square of the wing span divided by the wing area) than previous aircraft. This high aspect ratio wing design combined with efficiency enhancing raked wing tips allow the 787 to be one of the fastest commercial aircraft (Mach 0.85 cruise speed) while consuming less fuel than today's comparably sized aircraft.
The 787 Dreamliner is built up with one-piece construction as compared with traditional penalized construction, one-piece barrel construction offers lower weight and reduced maintenance costs.

Benefits:

  • More Flying Days
  • Passenger Preference
  • More space for cargo
  • Speed to travel faster
  • 20% less fuel consumption
  • 30% less maintenance
  • 15% lower Operating Costs
  • Lower Emissions
  • Reliable and easy to repair configuration

How fighter jets land on aircraft carriers ???

In this post of mine the automobile featured is the fighter jets and the topic for you is "How the fighter jets land on aircraft carriers ??? ". These machines are so fascinating that people of all age group love and respect them. Here I will tell you about the mechanism used by which these high speed fighter jets land in the short area runway of aircraft carrier. Before knowing the mechanism involved you guys need to know about three things:

  1. Whats an Aircraft Carrier??
  2. Whats Tail Hook??
  3. Whats Arresting gear??

So first we will discuss What exactly is an Aircraft carrier:

Aircraft carriers are warships that are used as a seagoing carrier ship which acts as an portable airbase for the naval operations. It has a large top over which airbase is made having runway strips and fighter jets parked over. Have a look on the picture to understand:
A typical Aircraft Carrier

What exactly is Tail hook:

Its a landing accessory fitted at the rear end of the fighter jets which comes out at the time of landing. Its a fixed metal part flattened at the rear end to make it a claw like hook. It is mechanically pulled in/out through the aircraft. Have a look at the pic below.
A Tail Hook

What exactly is Arresting Gear:

Arresting gear consist of one or more steel cables (arresting cables) which are stretched from both the end of the runway where the fighter jet is going to land. These cables are controlled by the retractable holders which keep the wires stretchable to a certain limit. See the pic below:
Arresting cables

Why a mechanism is needed:

Although the fighter jets are capable enough to stop by themselves  in normal conditions but when there is lack of space like in aircraft carriers, then the use of tail-hook and arresting gear comes into picture. Since the space is less and speed is high, the jets are force fully stopped onto the carrier.

How its done:

When a fighter jet is landing on the carrier the pilot lowers down the Tail-hook of the jet and that tailhook touches the surface of the carrier and comes into contact with the arresting gear. When arresting gear get hold of the tailhook, all the inertia of the jet gets transferred to the cables and the resistance from the cables stop the aircraft at shorter distance.
However sometimes the tailhook miss out the arresting gear and the this case of failure is know as "Boltered". To prevent the process to be boltered two three arresting gear are placed one after the another so that if the tailhook misses first stretched cable  then there's a possibility that it come in contact with the other cables following.
A landing in action

What if the Tailhook gets faulty:

In that case the jet has a bad luck. For this case the the jets are diverted to some nearby runways or if there's some limitations then the aircraft can be halted by erecting net barricades in its path. But this approach is least used as the tailhook and arresting gears are checked prior to the landings. Have a look at the Barricaded Instance.

This is it about how fighter jets land on the aircraft carriers..Read other interesting posts on the blog.
